Breathe with awareness. Respect the environment around you.
We breathe thousands of times every day, yet we often pay attention to air only when breathing becomes uncomfortable. The Air Pillar looks at two practical areas: the quality of the air around us and awareness of how we breathe.
India's Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) uses the National Air Quality Index (AQI) to communicate air quality and likely health impacts. Higher pollution levels can cause greater breathing discomfort, especially for children, older adults and people with existing respiratory or heart conditions.
Our purpose is not to create fear. It is to help people make sensible daily decisions — such as checking local AQI when pollution is high, avoiding tobacco smoke, reducing unnecessary exposure and improving ventilation where appropriate.
Stress often changes breathing without us noticing. A person may breathe rapidly, hold the breath during concentration, or carry tension in the shoulders and chest. Gentle awareness can help us slow down and notice these patterns.
MY NEW LIFE may introduce simple breathing awareness and selected pranayama concepts. Advanced, forceful or condition-specific practices should be taught by appropriately trained professionals.
Comfortable breathing can influence exercise, relaxation and sleep. Air quality can affect whether outdoor activity is appropriate on a particular day. This is why Air is the first pillar but never a stand-alone solution.
