Understand your emotions. Choose your response.
Emotional balance does not mean being calm or happy every moment. Life naturally brings pressure, disappointment, uncertainty, anger, grief and worry. The goal is to become more aware of what we are experiencing and develop healthier ways to respond.
One simple practice is to create a small pause between an emotion and an action. Notice the body, slow the breath, name what you are feeling and ask what response will be most constructive.
This does not remove serious problems, but it can help with everyday situations such as arguments, work pressure, impulsive decisions or stress-related habits.
NIMHANS' MindNotes platform includes self-help learning around worry, anger, negative thoughts, calming and coping with distress. These are useful examples of how emotional skills can be learned without pretending that self-help replaces professional care.
MY NEW LIFE does not diagnose or treat depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, addiction or other mental-health conditions. India’s Tele-MANAS programme provides 24×7 tele-mental-health support through 14416 for people who need professional assistance.
